Since 1222, Halesworth has held markets on the land alongside its church. Market Place evolved between this and the site of its manorial hall.

Once known as the ‘Flesh Market’ for its proliferation of butcher’s ‘shops’ and later flanked by a brewery and department stores selling finest Halesworth linen, these days you’ll find it sporting stalls full of fresh fruit and veg, household goods and local crafts.

Outside regular Wednesday market days, it plays host to all sorts of community events from antiques markets to family fun days and dance festivals.

Something exciting is coming to the heart of Beccles this summer — and it’s set to become your new Sunday ritual.

Starting Sunday 31st May, New Market, Beccles will transform into a vibrant weekly destination for shoppers, browsers, and lovers of all things unique. Running for 12 consecutive weeks, this brand-new Sunday Market will bring together a carefully curated mix of independent, artisan, and preloved stalls.

A Celebration of Independent Creativity

This isn’t your average market. Each week, visitors can expect a rotating selection of passionate local traders offering everything from handcrafted goods and artisan food to thoughtfully sourced preloved items. It’s a chance to support small businesses, discover one-of-a-kind finds, and enjoy everything else the town centre has to offer.

Make It a Sunday to Remember

Set in the charming surroundings of New Market, the event offers the ideal setting for a leisurely weekend outing. Pair your visit with a coffee from a nearby café, a stroll through town or down to the Quay – have a catch-up with friends and family.

Seasonal Markets on The Hill

Four seasonal markets are held on a larger scale than the traditional weekly markets. Featuring up to 40 stalls, the Spring, Summer, Harvest and Christmas markets attract a wide range of artisan makers, crafters and producers. From craft beer producers to potters, the markets showcase everything local, from the best in food and drink to arts and crafts.

This years’ fair has a special twist; As part of Constable250, and celebrating John Constable’s birthday week (11 June), the fair will have a birthday party theme & will round off a week of village-wide celebrations.

Open Farm Sunday, managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), is one of the farming industry’s biggest success stories. Since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, over 2000 farmers across Britain have opened their gates and welcomed over 3.25 million people onto farms for farming's annual open day.

It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old, to discover at first hand what it means to be a farmer and the fabulous work they do producing our food, nurturing and all the goods and services farmers provide.

Each event is unique based around the farm’s individual story. Activities during the day may include a farm walk, nature trail, tractor and trailer rides, demonstrations, pond dipping, activities for children, a mini farmers market or farm shop.

Norfolk Artisan Fair at Christmas on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November 2025 at the Fakenham racecourse.

Showcasing the very best that Norfolk has to offer with over 100 local food, drink and craft stands for the festive season.

A wonderful selection of makers and artists from across the region selling a range of handmade products including ceramics, metal and wood work, preserved flowers, original artwork, jewellery, upcycled furniture, feltwork, homewares, block printed goods, candles and natural skincare.

Artisan Market
A wide range of exhibitors offering everything from artisan foods and handmade soaps to vintage French collectables and pottery. As well as the wonderful stallholders, we have fantastic entertainment, live music, and children’s activities. There will also be lots of lovely local food and drink, making the fair an ideal day out for gardening clubs, families and similar groups – coaches are very welcome. 

Find yourself in plant paradise this September at our Autumn Plant & Craft Fair. It’s your chance to immerse yourself in a sea of colourful blooms and rare plants, as over 20 local and specialist nurseries return to Somerleyton Hall Gardens for one of the biggest plant fairs in the area.

It’s the ideal place to get autumn gardening inspiration, and pick up some excellent growing advice from the experts. Plus your tickets gives you access to our beautiful 12 acre gardens, which will be in full beautiful bloom.

Please note. The fair ends at 3pm with the gardens remaining open until 4pm.
